Ya’ll, lighting is everything when it comes to photographing portraits! This past weekend I hosted a Shop Talk get together in Pittsburg, Kansas and had the opportunity to play with a few different lighting setups. We compared Natural Light, Magic Tube Light (Ice Light), and Flashpoint XPLOR 600 HSS TTL.
Working with natural light was okay. It got the job done but didn’t really provide that “wow” factor to take my work to the next level.
The “ice light” provided some beautiful fill light! It’s light weight, compact, and usable without an assistant. The ice lights are constant lights, so you will see what you get type of thing. Takes a lot of the guess work out of where to place your light, what settings to use, etc. etc.
The flashpoint system was a dream! Hello?! It’s now the next “want” on my wishlist. Definitely going to be getting my hands on one of these ASAP! It has high speed sync capabilities and it’s TTL. You basically turn it on and point and shoot. I see this lighting system as being a huge time saver! It provided beautiful OCF and took the image to the “next level” vs. the other two. A big THANK YOU to Tout Yang for bringing this and letting us play with it! <3
