What I like for photographers

I whole heartedly believe in community over competition. I try to be an open book as much as possible to fellow photographers. Below you will find things I like and use in my photography businesses. I’ll keep it as updated as possible so check back often! And if you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me! I’d love to hear from you!

Education

It doesn’t matter if you are a self taught photographer or if you went to school to learn photography, you should never stop learning. Our industry is constantly changing and we must keep pace or get left behind. My favorite place for photography education is CreativeLIVE. They are constantly adding new classes, the instructors are some of the best in the photography industry, and classes are affordable! Seriously?! Where else can you find a 30 day workshop, that you can watch over and over again, taught by one of the top photographers in our industry for only $299? No where else but CreativeLIVE!

Website

You need a website. I will say it again, YOU NEED A WEBSITE! If you are serious about taking your photography to the next level and starting your own business, your Facebook page will NOT due. You need a website. There are so many website builders, templates, etc. out there, it can be a little overwhelming. I’ve tried quite a few of them and the one that made the most sense and was most customizable was WordPress.org. You can host your own website, which means you own the content! Unlike the content on your Facebook page.

To get started, you’ll need to sign up for a domain and a hosting account. Bluehost.com is an amazing company, and I’ve been with them since the beginning!

Need help getting it all installed? Just let me know! I can help you!

If you’re in the market for a new theme for your wordpress.org site, head on over to AngieMakes and check out their pretty and cute wordpress themes. I am currently using the “Jasmine” theme on a most of my websites.

Education + Community

I would love to have you join my Facebook group! It’s a small and intimate community. However, I totally understand you may need something bigger and for that I suggest Clickin’ Moms! I’ve been forum member there since 2009 and earned Pro card shortly after the program launched. They have a very large photography community, tons or tutorials, offer a wide variety of member taught photography workshop classes, and a very informative blog.

Camera Bags

I’ve tried out a few different camera bags, and my favorite by far is my Kelly Moore bag! I am currently rocking the 2 Sue’s bag. It holds all of my gear when I am out on location, has lots of pockets for extras, and is affordable! Kelly Moore has bags for both men and women, so go check ’em out!

Gear

The gear you choose to use really depends on your budget and how much you can/want to spend. My advice is to get a solid camera body and invest in good lenses. Before you decide to upgrade your camera body, consider adding a  new lens. I’ve divided most of these into three different categories, an unlimited/high budget, a middle of the road budget, and a low/minimal budget. I have shoot with Canon and Sigma, so that will be the brands that I recommend. Also, remember quality over quantity every.single.time. :)
